The Roots n Permaculture Learning Community is an evolving online network where course participants continue learning together after completing a course with Rakesh. It is a space for ongoing exploration, collaboration and practical application of regenerative ideas.
Rather than ending when a course finishes, learning continues through shared dialogue, experimentation and reflection. Members support one another in applying what they have learned within their own local contexts while continuing to expand their knowledge and skills.
A Space for Continuing Learning
The Learning Community exists to support ongoing development after formal courses. Participants return with new questions, experiences and projects, creating a dynamic environment where learning evolves over time.
While the foundation of the community is rooted in permaculture ethics and design thinking, conversations and explorations extend beyond permaculture alone. Members explore regenerative practice across many fields including ecology, food systems, social organisation, learning design, technology and community development.
Grounded in Regenerative Ethics
The community is guided by regenerative ethics inspired by permaculture: care for the Earth, care for people and fair share. These principles shape how members collaborate, share knowledge and support one another’s learning journeys.
We also experiment with collaborative governance inspired by sociocracy. Decisions are made transparently and collectively, allowing responsibility and leadership to be shared across the community.
Online Learning and Peer-Led Exchange
The Roots n Permaculture Learning Community connects through regular online learning days, our web platform and the open source communication platform Zulip. Zulip enables structured, threaded conversations, making it easier to explore topics in depth and collaborate across different interests.
Our learning days are largely peer-led. Members host sessions to share new knowledge, explore emerging ideas or present projects they are working on. This approach recognises that learning flows in many directions and that everyone brings valuable experience to the group.
Collaborative Reflection and Design
Members often bring real-world projects into the community for reflection and discussion. These may include gardens, land-based initiatives, educational projects, social enterprises or community programmes.
Through collective reflection, members gain new perspectives that strengthen their thinking and support practical implementation. This collaborative process helps transform ideas into tangible action.
Learning Through Practice
The focus of the community is not only discussion but practice. Members are encouraged to experiment, apply ideas in their own environments and return with reflections on what they have learned.
This cycle of action, reflection and shared learning helps transform theory into lived experience.
A Living Learning Network
The Roots n Permaculture Learning Community continues to evolve as members grow in confidence, explore new fields and deepen their regenerative practice.
It is a living network of learners committed to supporting one another in creating thoughtful, practical and regenerative responses to the challenges of our time.
